The engine is XXX cc, OHV, two valves per cylinder, air-cooled flat-twin (i.e., horizontally-opposed cylinders) or "boxer" engine. The RXX weighs XXX kg (XXX lb) with full tank of fuel and has five-speed gearbox connected to final shaft drive.[X] From XXXX on, the RXX was fitted with the breaker-less electronic ignition. This further improved the already good reliability of the bike.
  Following standard BMW practice of the time, two XX mm Bing CV carburetors were used, and the RXX used single dry plate clutch. An additional lower powered version was also produced for the German market and was fitted with XX mm Bing CV carburetors. The RXX features smaller fuel tank than other larger BMW airheads, with XX liters (X.X imp gal; X.X US gal) capacity which includes X.X-gallon reserve. The monoleverIn XXXX to enhance the RXX’s image the Hans Muth designed RXXLS was introduced. X,XXX RXXLS bikes were produced, which featured triangularly shaped pod fairing and instrument housing versus the standard naked front end of the RXX. Furthermore, different rear seat featured pillion grab handles similar in style to the soon-to-be-introduced Series BMWs. Different model transfers were used, and the only colors

version of the bike was produced from XXXX until XXXX.were hennarot (red) and Polaris (silver). Much of the chrome work of the RXX was replaced by black painted or black chrome features (exhaust piping, mufflers). Other options included:
