So this is real one of kind Savage, originally this was cruiser but always reckoned they would make great thumper cafe racer, with shades of Gold Stars etc. RYCA in the US recognise this and do loads of parts and kits that can turn them into type of racer, but not this one. Totally one off using many Brit parts, making this "Bitsa" in truest style.
The end result is cafe racer in the old XX's/XX's style with bit of "brat" attitude thrown in. So what does it comprise of?
Frame is the original Savage frame, with reworked top tube, new centre post, extended frame rails and rear loop. The swing arm is slimmed down box section one off. The rear wheel uses the Savage hub but has been rebuilt on slim XX" rim, polished rear alloy mudguard, small alloy indicators tucked under the seat, but nicely visible for cage drivers. One off alloy side panels, short rear chainguard. Hinkley Bonneville rear shocks. Alloy rear sets and pillion pegs mounted on bottom shock mounting bolts.Front end is complete Hinkley Bonneville unit, forks, yokes, caliper, wheel and disc. Suzuki Bandit front master cylinder. Set of steel clip-ons. Digital speedo. Tank is Norton Jubilee unit, which has been stretched slightly with false back hiding the mounting bolts, the outlet has been adjusted so that could use larger diameter tap. The seat is BSA Bantam one. The motor runs as standard, haven't had look at it really, it runs okay, did put in new clutch plates and springs. Standard header pipe with short reverse cone megaphone. power filter on the carb and it's been jetted accordingly. Never gone on rolling road but it seems to pull okay through the rev range, starts well and idles well so can't be far out. Electrics are basic, with X" Lucas style headlight at the front and classic style tail light. The auto de-compressor has been removed and this now runs old school style with manual de-compressor for starting and stopping
Biggest mod is that it's converted from the belt drive to chain drive. This has given much better range for final ratios and set as it is at the moment gives good all round performance. There are few spare sprockets with the bike if you want to experiment some more, along with new chain and dog eared clymer manual! also have file documenting all the mods with photos so that you can see how it was put together
The bike was never intended as show bike, so there is wear and tear, some surface rusting on some parts but it adds to the character finished in rattle can hammerite black for the frame and Ford Polaris Grey for the tank. It was meant to be ridden, not on motorways for mile after mile, but & roads, with bends and single carriageways, get it wound up and let the good times roll. Don't expect the performance or handling of your mates Gixer, but do expect grin when you're riding it and hidden grin when the "knowledgable" start talking to friends about what it actually is.
Bike is on "D" plate all MOT'd and ready to ride I'm selling as have one other bike and another about to be finished and am in need of some space and some funds to finish my project.
