Bimota holds unique position in the history of sport motorcycles. The Emilia Romagna region of Italy has always been the heart of Italian motorcycle development and manufacture. Design and engineering in this region, ??terra di motore? (the land of engines), has always been fertile ground for the development of the majority of the most significant new technical ideas and performance advances of Italian motorcycles. Bimota entered the fray in the early XX?s with innovative solutions to chassis design most notably that of trellis frames, hub center steering and extreme attention to component detail. The engines utilized were directly acquired from almost all of the top world producers. During the years Bimota production included engines from Honda, Suzuki , Harley Davidson, Yamaha , Ducati, BMW , Gilera, and Kawasaki, the resultant products being initially developed as race only bikes. The incredible passion of the three founders Bianchi, Morri and Tamburini produced race bikes that carried such great names as Ferrari, Tardozzi, Mertens and Falappa to victories on the world stage. Technical innovation, handcrafting and unrestricted component quality have always been the primary directive and soul of Bimota. Since the rebirth of Bimota in XXXX, these priorities remain at core of the company's philosophy. The DBX, which first appeared in XXXX, is powered by the incredible Ducati XXXX Testastretta Evoluzione engine further upgraded by Bimota's own enhancements to the fuel and ECU systems, and marries the performance of the Ducati Superbike engine with Bimota's chassis concepts. The beautiful oval tube hybrid trellis frame, stout light alloy mounting plates and structural carbon fiber rear subframe together with new Bimota progressive rear suspension is both highly functional and an absolute work of art. Such craftsmanship coupled with focus on the ultimate in handling meant that production was always going to be extremely limited and very expensive. little over XXX DBXs were made in total with less than half that number coming to the United States. This particular example was kept unsold by the American distributor Bimota Spirit as part of its in house collection until last year when it was bought and registered by California collector to replace much missed previous DBX and added to small and exclusive collection of cars and motorcycles each of which could be considered paramount in their fields. The titanium rear muffler has been removed and anodized billet finishers have been added to the exhaust pipes which have also been very expensively coated in black ceramic, (so much more elegant, if costly, than mere powder coating). ALL of the original unused parts, including the original clutch assembly and all mounting hardware plus spare instrument panel module accompany the DBX as does an original bright red factory Baxley stand. The total package represents cost well in excess of $XX,XXX and would seem to be irreplaceable at any price. The DBX and other items from the collection are only for sale to make way for.a new high performance sailplane and must represent an unparalleled opportunity for the serious Superbike connoisseur/collector. The Bimota is genuinely for sale and may be sold to the highest bidder regardless of reserve. Offers are invited. Part of this description was adapted from Top Speed
